September 13, 2024 – Philadelphia, PA - David Gevurtz, President and Co-Owner of Urbia Imports, has been honored as a 2024 recipient of two prestigious industry accolades; Furniture Today’s Forty Under 40 and Home Furnishings Business’s Forty Under 40. Both publications have recognized Gevurtz as one of the leading innovators shaping the future of the home furnishings industry. These honors spotlight exceptional individuals under the age of 40 who are driving growth, innovation and positive transformation in the industry.
"I am deeply honored to be recognized by both Furniture Today and Home Furnishings Business. These awards are not just a testament to my own career, but reflect Urbia’s incredible journey over the last decade,” said Gevurtz. “We have a lot of exciting things in our pipeline, and I look forward to the future as we continue to push boundaries and innovate."
Gevurtz was selected for his trailblazing efforts in expanding Urbia’s presence in the e-commerce space, significantly increasing the company’s brand exposure and revenue. A key aspect of this expansion has been his focus on evolving and improving merchandising to meet market demands. Gevutz’s leadership in implementing new technology, including a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, has revolutionized Urbia’s operations by enabling more seamless and efficient connections with customers and vendors, positioning the company for continued growth and success.
With an unexpected entry into the furniture and home furnishings industries, Gevurtz received a B.S. in Hotel Administration from Cornell University and pursued a career in hotel real estate and restaurant development after earning his master’s in real estate from New York University. While drafting a business plan for a Vietnamese-inspired fast-casual restaurant, his father and Urbia co-owner, Gary Gevurtz, invited him on a sourcing trip to Asia in 2013. This trip sparked his interest in the family-rooted business and ultimately changed the course of his career.
At Urbia, Gevurtz oversees both strategy and day-to-day operations, including product development, supply chain management and sales and marketing initiatives. As president, his exemplary leadership underscores the importance of problem-solving and creating value through a collaborative work culture. Gevurtz fosters a customer-centric approach for both internal and external stakeholders while prioritizing the establishment of long-standing relationships with international suppliers. This strategy supports Urbia's competitive edge and helps the company stay ahead of market trends.
Outside of work, Gevurtz supports Housing Works, a nonprofit addressing the crises of AIDS and homelessness, notably through their annual Design on a Dime event. He is also an advocate for the Hetrick-Martin Institute, which provides support and resources for LGBTQIA+ youth. Additionally, Gevurtz contributes to the Lustgarten Foundation, which is dedicated to pancreatic cancer research, through their annual charity walk.
Furniture Today honored its 40 Under 40 recipients at their Trailblazers and Titans event on July 27 during Las Vegas Market. Home Furnishings Business will honor its recipients during High Point Market on October 28 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the American Home Furnishings Hall of Fame.
